Establishing shot: a big ol' temple. Now, there are more flattering shots, to be sure, but there are two reasons for this one. First, this was the highest vantage point in this whole area that was in public space. The temple has this wildly detailed roof, and I'm pretty sure there are parts of it that are only visible to the people who live in the tiny apartments on the upper floors of the nearby buildings. Second, I don't have any pictures inside the temple, because I didn't go inside the temples.
However, since I passed on the (apparently magnificent) inside of the temple, I got to wander around the neighborhood, and found this fantastic art museum, which had in the entire building only one word of English: "WELCOME." It also had a little pictograph indicating "no photography", but after a while I realized I was the only one in the building, and I just had to get some pictures of this stuff (I wish I had taken more):
Around the corner from the big temple, I also found-- smaller temples! OK, now I'm just throwing pics at you. Cut me some slack, they're pictures!
